wanna go deeper?

Much of the poetry and essay writings in this journal
are soley those of my own thoughts and discoveries. They don't
necessarily reflect the views or opinions of everyone in the
band. (Unless of course, you see their name instead of mine.)
I offer these thoughts, creations and meditations to the seeking artist
or lover who is looking for something deeper.
A good friend of mine told me once that to truly receive something from
a piece of creative work, we have to first give ourselves to it.
We have to kick out the critic who lives inside of us judging every
impression or stimulus by his own set of predjudice decrees.
I encountered this critic inside myself recently when i was searching
for inspiration in other poet's works. I discovered that unless something
immediately jumped off the page at me as some epiphany, I wouldn't take the time to dig deeper into the heart of what was being offered. Mostly, because I was reading a stranger's words who held no immediate place of interest in my life. I knew that if someone I knew and loved gave me a scrap of their own stuff, I would dive into it recklessly searching for the jewels their work contained, no matter what condition it was given in. I concluded that love is the only true impetus for giving or receving anything creative. Love allows us to receive truth, beauty, epiphany. Otherwise our own judgments stifle us from receiving anything of worth from anyone or anything.
Go deeper.
